Sonny Palmeri Memorial
April 28th, 2012
The tournament drew a lot of players and spectators alike. The 32 player tournament filled up a week ahead of time and even had some players show at the door in hopes of getting in via a no show. The 32 player field was very strong, including some past winners: Jordie Palmeri, Mark Ford and Shaun Wilkie. Other players who participated were: Tony Long, Matt Krah, Joe Stem, Dean Phillips and Dave Cox.
The past winners all seemed to meet in the end. Jordie had a difficult road to the finals on the top side of the winners side. Matches against Bob Parker, Matt Krah, Louis Wehage and Mike Slagle earned him the chance to play Shaun Wilkie in the final match of the winners side.
On the bottom of the bracket Mark Ford had a tough draw facing Dominic Noe, before losing to Shaun Wilkie. Mark didn’t let the loss get the best of him as he continued playing strong against elite compition facing Ken Collins, Louis Wehage, Tony Long, Loye Bolyard and Dave Cox to earn a 2nd Shot at Shaun Wilkie in the final match.
Also on the bottom of the bracket was Shaun Wilkie. He faced tough competition if he wanted to leave the winner. Matches against Raymond Bateman , Mark Ford, Jerry Shepard and Dave Cox put him in the final match of the winners side against Jordie. As he did all day against tough competition, Shaun was able to get the victory to secure his spot in the final match and a rematch against Mark Ford.
After a long day of pool against some of the elite players in the area, Shaun Wilkie emerged victorious to win the tournament once again.
A big thanks to all of the players and spectators, Sonny’s family members, staff at Big Falls and John from Digitrax Studios for helping to put together a successful tournament.
